West Van Bowlers Medal At BC Indoor
It was a fantastic weekend of Bowls at the Pacific Indoor Bowls Club, as the West Van LBC had 4 members playing in the 2018 BC Indoor Triples. Last year Bowls BC started an Indoor series that consists of a Mixed Pairs, Triples, Pairs and Singles events. The tournaments were put into place to help add more competition to the Winter months and to help with the exposure of the PIBC as its a world class facility. Having made their way through the round robin, West Van had all 4 bowlers in medal contention on the final day.
A newer member to West Van last year, Alice, played on Josephine’s Team and would take home the Silver Medal and Sue would battle out a final game to win the Bronze Medal with her Teammates from Stanley Park LBC. There were plenty of tie-breaks for Sue’s Team, ensuring they played non-stop on Saturday from 9am to 3.30pm. Mary Ann has a Fit Bit (?) and reckoned over the three days they walked 17 km’s in their 7 games or 14 sets of 9 ends, making it 137 ends with tie breaks! Can you hear Sue justifying today’s exhaustion?
On the Men’s side it was a tough battle, but the Team of Jim, Neil and Brian would win their final contest to earn the Bronze Medal. The Team of Jamie, Matt and Jon would eventually win the gold medal match. Jim now has to re-group for the Provincial Indoor Pairs this coming weekend, and the weekend after that is the Provincial Men’s Indoor Singles… The forecast is more medals on the horizon!
It was a great showing from the West Van LBC members as the medals were well deserved. Next up will be the Pairs which will take place this coming weekend and once again the Club will be well represented.
Congratulations to all who participated in the event.
